Sound machines

Sound machines The museum collection of phonographs and gramophones consists of more than 200 devices from as early as 1894, including an extremely rare nickel-plated Edison phonograph from 1912, the only known model in existence.

The collection, a gift from Linaria-area farmer Bernard Wiese in 2007, is the best in Western Canada and contains items seldom seen anywhere else.

Although there are two Canadian collections that are larger — one in Ontario, one in Quebec — fewer such luxury items were found in Western Canada, partly because it was settled so much more recently.
